Ken Carter started trading as Ken Carter Motor Engineers in Chapeltown in 1957 moving to the present premises in 1959. In 1962 Central Garage (Chapeltown) was registered as a Limited Company. The name came from the close proximity of the premises to the old Central Railway and the Chapeltown Central Railway Station.

With extensive development of site and facilities over the years it was decided a clearer identity should be given to the garage. In January 1993 Carters of Chapeltown was chosen as the trading name because of the affinity to Ken and the excellent reputation built up by the garage through the standards first set by Ken when the business began.

Many customers from those early days are still with us, a true testimony to those high standards of quality in all aspects of our service. This was further developed in March 1995 by Carters of Chapeltown becoming "Limited" and the Central Garage being renamed.

The Company holds the Ford franchise, is a member of the Retail Motor Industry Federation and is an authorised repairer for CIS Insurance at our Bodycare Centre all of which underlines the ongoing success we have enjoyed providing you, our customers, with everything you would expect from the Friendly Family Firm.
